Excercise

I don't know about you but when it's the beginning of my period and I'm in a lot of pain the last thing I want to hear from someone is well why not do some exercise to help.  However I have noticed that if I push myself to just do a little something like go for a walk with the dog, I do feel better.  I must point out though that usually in the beginning of my period when I'm in the most pain, unless I really have to go out, I will stay in.  I will wear my comfiest clothes and just have the time for me to rest and feel crap. If I want to watch TV all day or eat chocolate I will.  Even if it's not perhaps the best choice for me, I don't care, I don't feel good and I will do whatever I want to comfort myself.

I am however, making a conscious effort to work out the rest of the month.  Exercise helps to balance your hormones and also it is good for your mental health too.  So perhaps when you are feeling a little sorry for yourself or just down in general, exercise can really help raise your mood.

One side effect of endometriosis is extreme tiredness so it can be difficult to have the energy to do any exercise.  I think its important to find something you really enjoy otherwise you wont do it.  There are so many ways to exercise whether it's swimming, walking, yoga, at the gym, racket sports etc.  It is important to also not do too much especially if you are just getting into exercise.  If you haven't exercised before then don't try to do one hour hard core exercise.  You're more likely to give up so start small, even just 5 minutes and see how you feel and build up from there.

I personally use the YouTube channel called walk at home and I will do a one mile walk which is only around 15 minutes of exercise but it's aerobic so you really feel good afterwards.  I also will go for walks with my dog.  Now that it is summer I will do some swimming in the outdoor pool in our apartment complex. I also do yoga, sometimes it might only be 10 minutes, sometimes 30 minutes, depending how I'm feeling.  For that I use the YouTube channel Yoga with Adrienne.

While researching about what foods are good for me, I read that you can also breathe in a lot of natural oils if you can go for a 45 minute walk in an area with a lot of trees and plants.  As the trees and plants release a lot of natural oils.

So have a try at a few different things and see which exercise works best for you.  Don't forget don't try and push yourself too hard to begin with because you will more likely give up.  Take it slow and build it up as you go along.
